Product Listing Update Checklist
Catalog Data & Identifiers
Pull the SKU from the PIM (Akeneo, Plytix, or your master sheet) and confirm the GTIN/UPC matches the value on the Amazon listing, the Shopify variant, and the Walmart item. A mismatched GTIN is the most common cause of Amazon listing suppression and Walmart item-setup failure.
Open the parent ASIN in Seller Central and confirm every active child variant rolls up correctly. A common gotcha: a variant orphaned from a recent flat-file upload still ranks but loses Buy Box eligibility on the parent.
FBA and parcel carriers bill on DIM weight when it exceeds actual weight. Re-measure the master carton and individual unit packaging if the product or pack-in changed; outdated specs trigger Amazon FBA dimension/weight fee reconciliation later.
Lithium batteries, aerosols, magnets, supplements, and adult-content flags drive different FC routing and ad-eligibility. Update the dangerous-goods classification in Seller Central and the corresponding tag in Shopify so shipping rules apply correctly.
Pricing & Inventory Sync
Push the new price to Shopify, Amazon (Your Price + Sale Price), and any other connected marketplaces. Confirm Buy Box price falls within the Amazon min/max guardrails so automated repricers don't pull the listing out of the Buy Box overnight.
If your brand enforces MAP, the new promotional price must respect the floor or you've just told every authorized reseller it's open season. Send the MAP update via your standard channel (Trackstreet, MarketTrack, or distributor portal) before the price goes live publicly.
In Cin7 / Linnworks / Veeqo / Skubana, reserve a buffer for Shopify so Amazon doesn't oversell the last unit. A 5-10% buffer is typical for fast movers; raise it during Q4 or when 3PL receive lag is unpredictable.
Set the alert at lead-time × daily-velocity + safety stock. If the supplier lead time changed (CNY shutdown, port congestion, new factory), the old threshold will fire too late and you'll stock out before the PO lands.
Compliance & Claims Review
Pull the GCC, CPC (children's products), FDA registration, MoCRA filing, or Prop 65 documentation from the substantiation folder. An expired CPC will cause Amazon to suppress a children's listing the moment a compliance audit hits the ASIN.
Contact the testing lab (Intertek, SGS, Bureau Veritas, UL) to retest or renew. Upload the new certificate to Brand Registry and the PIM. Do not publish updated listing copy until the document is on file — Amazon can request it during the next audit.
Every "clinically proven," "FDA approved," "#1 dermatologist recommended," or efficacy claim needs a citation in the substantiation folder per FTC guidance. Strip claims you cannot back up — unsubstantiated claims are the easiest FTC enforcement target and the easiest competitor takedown report.
Search the CPSC recall database and your manufacturer's safety bulletins for the SKU and any shared component (battery cell, magnet, choke-hazard part). Active recalls must halt the relaunch immediately.
Listing Content & SEO
Hero image must be on pure white per Amazon style guide (RGB 255,255,255), product fills 85% of frame, no text or watermarks. Lifestyle slots 2-7 should show scale, in-use context, and infographic callouts of the top 3 differentiators.
Pull current high-volume search terms from Helium 10 Cerebro or Jungle Scout Keyword Scout. Front-load the title with brand + primary keyword + key attribute (size/color/count). Keep bullets under 200 characters each; lead with the benefit, not the spec.
Refresh the comparison chart, brand story module, and any Premium A+ video. Premium A+ is free for Brand Registered sellers who hit the threshold — confirm eligibility before designing modules you can't publish.
Run the page through Google Rich Results Test to confirm Product, Offer, and AggregateRating schema validate. Alt text on every image, canonical URL set, no duplicate H1. Shopify themes vary — a recent theme update can silently break schema output.
Publish & Post-Launch Monitoring
Publish in this order: Shopify first (it's instant), then Amazon (4-24 hour reindex), then Walmart and eBay. Capture screenshots of the live PDP on each channel for the audit trail.
Open Manage Inventory → Suppressed Listings and read the exact error. Most suppressions are missing required attributes (main image background, dangerous-goods declaration, age-grade) — fix the field, repush via flat file or Send to Amazon, and reconfirm within 24 hours.
Pull Brand Analytics, Business Reports, and Shopify Analytics 7 days post-launch. Watch for: conversion rate drop > 15%, BSR slide of more than two ranks, sudden uptick in 1-3 star reviews. Each is a signal to roll back the change or open a deeper investigation.
