Safety Inspection Checklist
Fire Safety
Check that all fire extinguishers are in place and have been inspected within the last year
Ensure that smoke detectors and fire alarms are functional and have fresh batteries
Verify that all exits are clearly marked, unobstructed, and can be easily opened from the inside
Electrical Safety
Inspect all electrical outlets for signs of damage, overheating, or wear
Test GFCI outlets to ensure they trip properly and reset
Confirm that there are no frayed wires or cords and that all electrical panels are accessible
Building Security
Examine all entry points to ensure locks, hinges, and frames are secure
Check that security systems and cameras are operational and cover appropriate areas
Review lighting around the property to confirm that it adequately illuminates walkways and entrances
Plumbing and Water Safety
Inspect for leaks, drips, or signs of water damage throughout the property
Test water pressure and hot water system functionality
Ensure that sump pumps and backflow prevention devices are operating correctly
General Building Condition
Assess the condition of floors, walls, and ceilings for damage or hazards
Check stairways, handrails, and guardrails for stability and code compliance
Evaluate the condition of windows, doors, and their hardware
Outdoor Areas
Inspect the condition of sidewalks, parking lots, and pathways for cracks and uneven surfaces
Review the landscaping for potential hazards such as tree roots or branches
Ensure that outdoor recreational facilities, if any, are safe and in good working order
Hazardous Materials Management
Check storage areas for proper labeling and handling of hazardous materials
Verify that Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available for all chemicals on site
Ensure that spill kits and other emergency equipment are easily accessible
