Hazardous Cargo Handling Checklist
Documentation and Permits
Verify that the hazardous cargo is correctly classified and declared by the shipper
Ensure all necessary transport documents are complete, accurate, and available on board
Check that special permits or approvals, if required, have been obtained and are valid
Packaging and Labeling
Inspect that the hazardous cargo is properly packaged according to the applicable regulations
Confirm that all packages are correctly labeled with the appropriate hazard class labels and placards
Check for any signs of damage or leakage on the packaging and take appropriate action if any issues are found
Loading and Securing Cargo
Ensure that the hazardous cargo is loaded in a manner that prevents movement during transport
Check that segregation requirements are met to prevent incompatible goods from being stored together
Verify that all securing equipment, such as straps and chains, are in good condition and properly used
Emergency Preparedness
Make sure that an emergency response plan is in place and readily accessible to all crew members
Check that appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and in good condition
