Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Checklist
Exterior Check
Inspect the vehicle for any visible damage or defects
Check the condition of tires, including tread depth and inflation
Ensure all lights and reflectors are clean, functional, and free from damage
Engine Compartment
Verify the engine oil level and look for any leaks
Check the coolant level and condition
Inspect belts for cracks or fraying
In-Cab Inspection
Test all gauges and instruments for proper operation
Ensure the windshield and mirrors are clean and free of cracks
Verify that the horn, wipers, and heater/defroster are working
Safety Equipment
Check for the presence and condition of the fire extinguisher
Verify that the first aid kit is stocked and accessible
Ensure that warning triangles or flares are available and in good condition
Brake System
Test the parking brake for proper operation
Check brake pads and drums for wear and tear
Inspect brake lines and hoses for any signs of wear or leaks
Cargo and Storage Area
Ensure the cargo is properly secured and distributed
Inspect the condition of straps, chains, and binders
Check that the doors and/or gates are secure and functioning properly
